It’s a given that 9 out of 10 start-ups or innovations fail. The most significant reasons for this are: a bad idea, the wrong team or insufficient budget. But specifically, for initiatives within the public domain, we can also add a number of other reasons to that list, making it seem nearly impossible to innovate. We will look for answers to the question of how to create a healthy ‘start-up mentality’ in the public sector. Wout Withagen and Gijs van Zon from internet consultancy Freshheads (including the Quiet Community, winner of the Social Innovation Award) will discuss the most important reasons why innovations within the public domain are now failing and what can be done to tackle this.
