A Dialogue on innovation in healthcare through Dance and Creative Arts interventions.
In a climate in which authorities, health organisations and health insurers are looking for a solution to global epidemics such as sedentary lifestyles and stress related diseases, dance can, in all its facets, play an important role in the area of health and welfare.
This year, a special collaboration has been formed between Dance and Creative Wellness Foundation, Het Laar and DansBrabant. Together, they believe that dance is a social, inclusive form of movement that can herald a huge improvement in health worldwide. Young and old, handicapped or able-bodied, everyone can use this form of movement to improve or maintain health, the immune system, brain function, confidence and social integration.
We would like to take you on our quest. Experience it, feel it and together create some creative dialogue. Then offer a call to action: ‘Moving towards innovation in healthcare is an open forum to start this dialogue and identify available assets, resources, potential avenues and innovative and yet effective next steps.’

Positive Health – an approach that promotes health and well-being, as opposed to illness management – changing our definition of health and provoking innovation in Health promoting care*. Health moves beyond the WHO 1948 definition “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being” to become an active engagement of the individual – ‘the ability to adapt and self-manage in the face of social, physical, and emotional challenges’.
In the development to our modern societies our body has made an immense evolution becoming an exceeding productive source. Evolving from a reproductive (re)creative source to an economic and aesthetic tool. This shift from an autonomous to corporate subject may have economic value but it left many oblivious and eventually unaware about the authentic power of our physical body; how it is connected to our mind, our socio-psychological wellbeing and our power to create conditions for creativity. Which potentially contributes and adds value to the processes in overcoming physical or mental trauma.
Andrew Greenwood, co-founder of Dance and Creative Wellness, is an avid advocate for the need for transformation in healthcare! Working in collaboration with cultural institutions such as Nationale Opera and ballet Amsterdam, Hermitage Museum St Petersburg, invited to present the program Moving Towards Mental Wellness for World Mental Health Day at the European Parliament, Brussels.
